\"OLYMPUS<\/a>Court Watching, gaining popularity and the networks have discovered the riveting world of the courtroom, the sociopath, the good guys and the bad guys, the compelling and uncompelling witnesses— the\u00a0unparalelled drama that is to be found at the point where a citizen, free yesterday, may be put to death by the government tomorrow.<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I am as avid a trial watcher as you can find.\u00a0 Sadly, I have to watch programs like Nancy Grace to feed my insatiable appetite for the details.\u00a0 But I am disgusted by much of what I hear.\u00a0 At the point the public is clamoring for death, the media interest starts to feel obscene.\u00a0 Like the Roman coliseum, and Christians and lions. Personally, I just don’t feel that\u00a0need, shared by so many others, to see Jodi Arias die by lethal injection.\u00a0 If life, so-called, is good enough for Brett Seacat, it’s good enough for Jodi Arias.<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is a mob out there calling for blood, in that case, and in others.\u00a0This mob writes death threats to witnesses for the side they are against.\u00a0 They applaud the humiliation and ruin of respected professional at the hands of angry prosecutors.\u00a0They cry out for death and vengeance, and seem to be content with nothing less.\u00a0 They threaten the lives of jurors\u00a0merely because they\u00a0didn’t vote for guilt, or, in some cases– execution.<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This mob is dangerous to more than its intended targets.\u00a0 This mob is out to destroy our system of justice.\u00a0 The independence of jurors is\u00a0crucial to the whole process.\u00a0 The freedom of witnesses to speak their truth is equally<\/var>crucial.\u00a0 Our system would be a hollow farce without these things. The right of an individual to a fair jury means the right to\u00a012 unintimidated jurors.<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Our courts are open for all to see, and that is good.\u00a0 People have opinions about issues that concern them, and that is good too.\u00a0\u00a0Slander, threats,\u00a0 and cries for vengeance against\u00a0people who\u00a0have performed their jobs in good faith— these are\u00a0not good.\u00a0 Now that the public has come in to the courtroom, they need to show some respect.\u00a0 The vigilante mob has no place there.<\/div>\n
